they are easy to find man, just play thru the game.
i have gotten about 18gems in one game day once.(outhouse, little 10 gold boxes, theives attacked and i got 2leather off them) normally get like 2-3 per day tho, just play thru and u will accumulate them.
its kinda an incentive that someone just starting cant get all the best shit from farmboy lvl1

the # of gems u have is listed right above ur experience bar and u use them to buy magical items from ye ole equip shop. they can also do others but thats the main thing.
