Who would you choose to be the next president and why? Please have examples to back up your decision.

interesting point, can you give an example of his inadequacies? like a specific policy he has or platform which you disagree with?

Well i'm not that well inform'd in politics but from the news articles i've been reading and stuff, he has offshore accounts so that he doesn't pay a lot for taxes. He's arguement for being president is because he is successful in business so he'll be successful as president

ah, a fallacy which has been disproven numerous times, while the country is similiar to a business, just because you are good at one, does not qualify you for the other. although the offshore account thing is common amongst upper class citizens. I am not saying it is a good thing but, its not unheard of. I would love to hear more from other users on their opinions though smile

Ya true most top class citizens have offshore accounts but you don't hear Obama's offshore accounts. Mitt Romney isn't even president yet and you hear him with offshore accounts to evade tax. Who would want a president like that

exactly, the fact that corruption has become mainstream doesn't change the fact that it is still indeed corruption lol. one must hold their morals above that of their wallet

Well i've been taking american politics class and my ignorance level has gone down quite a bit. Before the classes, i always thought americans were all equal and it's a free country and we are basically #1. Now I see how corrupt the U.S. is for people who aren't white.
but yeah lol

as much as i would love to say that america is number one... we aren't. and while i love to say we are free. (we do hold a large amount of freedoms) we are not truly free. and yes, racism is disappearing slowly but it still has a bitter hold even if not as braizen(sp?) as it once was. we can only each do our own part in smudging the racist lines until there are no longer lines. it is up to each of us to live by a code of honor and morality and to treat each other with dignity and respect.

I thought racism was gone due to being ignorant
Just recently on the news some white guy killed a 17 year old black kid because "he thought the black kid was harmful"
the black kid didnt even have any weapons, just a regular 17 year old. What happens to the white guy? he is right now released and free....It is a proven fact that white men get less punishments then other races. also considering judges consist of mostly white men even though they arent the majority

the trayvon martin case. im actually glad you mentioned it. unfortunately, racism won't die until the old people who still believe it die. and even then, they are poisoning their children's minds. so i can pretty much guarantee we won't see an end to racism in our lifetimes. but hopefully my children will

We won't for sure, those racist white men at the top just brainwash the lower class so easily. I acknowledge that i am racist. It's not that I want to be, I just automatically feel "unsafe" or "alert" ready to fight whenever I see a black person walking near me. Not saying I hate black people because I have lots of black friends, it's just my automatic reaction towards blacks is like many other americans and we see black people as a danger.

as a true american once told me... you cannot be angry at them for their racism, they were raised that way. but you can be angry about their ignorance, for every person can learn

In all honesty ive been concentrating on school more than the presidential race and polls. Here is what i do have to say though. I would like a president that is more active than Obama was thats for sure. Sure Obama had his strengths and weaknesses but he laid way to low and was pushed around by congress on several occasions.

I know this may be hard to comprehend but i would like a president more like Bush Jr. I think Bush had some very good aspects about him that are overlooked hardcore in at least the highly liberal state I am from. Alot of my reasoning has to do with the publicity he did get. Whether it was for him or against him, he received an unremarkable amount more than Obama did (not including the election duration). Even though a lot of the pubilicty was statements of an opinions (whether majority or minority) on a "bad" action Bush may have done, it proved that he was doing something with his term(s). But this is what a democracy is about, allowing the population to form their own opinions on issues brought up in the government and what takes them into action whether population voting or judicial. Obama did not do much of this over his 4 years, which highly disappoints me.
So with that said im not sure who fits the catagory the best of the candidates. If you have any questions id be happy to answer them to the best of my ability.

I have to disagree with you there pure. Bush stole his election from gore by cheating. He also commited war crimes in Iraq. He was not worthy of being our president.

Hence why i mentioned even bad publicity is better than none. It means he is doing something as our president. As for the stolen election, i personally get annoyed when people use it as a reason. It was the way our voting system was set up, he was grandfathered in with it. You cant change the logistics during an election. If congress wanted to change it after they could, but the grandfather clause would not allow it. Theoretically it would be like a loop hole in the constitution, someone gets away with something. The supreme court cant just change the constitution to catch the person. They are grandfathered into that loophole when the action was committed. After the supreme court could decide to amend the constitution to cover the loophole that was abused.

i like your point about the publicity. while i disagree with your choice of presidents, i understand your reasoning. something i would like to mention is the fact that the republican party stonewalled obama for the majority of his presidency. at one point they stonewalled so far that they almost hurt the country (the debt ceiling raise). granted i don't agree with EVERYTHING obama did i agree with more of it than bush. but i digress.

well the supreme court should not be involved with the presidential elections in the first place. Also they ruled for the first time saying that that case was special and they wouldn't use the case for any other rulings? what kind of ruling is that

Ya, i was more using Bush as an example for extremes. I think he did many many idiotic maneuvers during his presidency. I technically am signed up as republican but i am much more an independent. The only reason i chose republican was so i could vote in the major primaries and what not that independents arent included in. I just dont want a president that wastes their term. Seriously i havent heard any new publicity on Obama in about a year+ if not two. Its all either same old things that were brought up in his first year or none at all.
One thing i do sympathize for Bush on is that not many presidents have terrorist attacks on homeland during their presidency. There wasnt any rule book or president he could go by, so he took a ton of flak for that and his stupid decisions received all the publicity while the good ones none. (and yes he did do some things right)

I think you misunderstood what i said. I never connect the supreme court with how the election happened. I gave you a theoretical case using the supreme court and the constitution as an analogy. I also believe you need to understand what and how the grandfather clause works.
