I don't believe so but according to an old Japanese myth, they are. While it's rare that two would wash ashore in a relatively short time span, I believe it was bound to happen. Beached oarfish are uncommon but not that uncommon.

People have been saying that California is due for a massive earthquake for years. In fact, my 9th grade geometry teacher moved out of states because of it. Regardless, people in earthquake-prone areas should prepare themselves to the best of their capacity.
