however on a basis of principles the battlefield holds a crucial niche in the community in that it gives moderators accountability for what they have done. if you do something rediculous then you're gonna get flamed for it in the battlefield and everybody will know about it. similar to how freedom of speech and press plays a crucial role in a healthy democracy.
the battlefield also provides a source of entertainment and venting for the members. it's a place to be silly/spamming/crazy/angry/etc and get it out of their system and keep it off the main boards.
