this is an interesting point. for those of us who do alot of our browsing at work this is nearly a requirement with some of the content in peoples ava/sigs. that and its much easier to say your reading about buisness relavent info when its just text on the screen as opposed to sigs/ava's filled with tits guns explosions demons and booze.

the ability to not display these would be quite useful for alot of us.

Yeah, like Noc said it's not really safe for work to be browsing through sigs of naked women, etc. That and my work PC is terribly slow, so it would give me quicker load times _____________________ I lifted up my shirt and showed her my abs.
