The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a good RPG imo. It's pretty old (2006) and only in single-player though.
The main quest is okay, but what's really great with this game is exploring the game world and doing side quests imo.
Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 are also good RPGs. Both of them are single-player games though. In the Mass Effect
games the side-quests kinda suck (imo), but the main story and the gameplay is really good 
Halo: Reach is going to be released on september 14. It won't be very complicated unless you want to play at a really
high level. If you want a fps Halo: Reach or the latest Call of Duty game would probably be the best games to buy.
