And as soon as I'm about to get off at my stop, some random guy stops me and says "Hey buddy, watch the street." Instant paranoia bomb goes off in my head. "Why did he say that?", "What did he mean?", "Does he know something I don't?". All that is going through my head as I walk the 2+ miles from my stop to my house, alongside a major road >.>
Along the way, a car pulls into an apartment complex just as I'm about to cross the entrance. Luckily, I stepped back in time, and he stopped. I think to myself, "That was a close call, but certainly not worth the paranoia that comes with an ominous foreshadow like "Watch the street." A few feet down the road, I'm about to cross this normally empty road when a big white pickup truck comes speeding through a turn and almost T-bones me. That one really got me worried, but nothing I can't deal with. So I keep walking, and the weirdest, yet most sensible thought goes through my head. I think about that scene from The Matrix where The Oracle tells Neo "Don't worry about the vase", then he breaks it and apologizes, and she say's "I told you not to worry about it. What's really going to bake your noodle later, is if I hadn't said anything, would you still have broken it?"
My point is, if he hadn't said anything, would I almost have got hit by those two cars while pre-occupied with what he said, or would I have gotten hit because I wasn't expecting it?
