Determine if your condition is mild or severe. Prescription antiperspirants are available for mild cases of hyperhidrosis. Apply these topical treatments at night and wash the area clean in the morning. They need to be used several nights consecutively and then can be reduced to a few times per week to keep the condition under control.

Investigate possible treatment options for more severe cases of overactive sweat glands. There are prescription medications that are taken orally such as Pro-banthine, Ditropan and Robinul. Side effects are mild but include blurred vision, dry mouth and constipation.

Try Botox. Botox injections are a temporary solution but many insurance companies do not pay for the Botox and therapy can be expensive in the long term.

Use a weekly treatment. Iontophoresis is a weekly procedure done at some hospitals where electrical currents pass across the affected area to temporarily stop production of sweat.

Consider surgical options only if other therapies have proved to be unsuccessful and your doctor determines the case to be quite severe. Liposuction is used to remove sweat glands from armpits, and surgical sympathectomy can be done on other areas but may require skin grafts.
