Now we all listen to music, and some of us even play music. but do you really understand music?
In reality music is a universal language simply through the fact that, as a whole... it is math. Using fractional approaches and timing mechanisms in order to complete a certain degree of rhythmic intricacies within the time frame of a measure. We can compare music through either the "emotional" or "technical" aspects.

When it comes to emotional music, the key point is not the intricacies but merely in the sound and feeling of the music. This is where genres such as rock, r & b , and the assorted musics pre 1980 (aside from classical) gain their power. These styles incoporate simplistic instruments and non complicated pieces from those instruments to convey lyrical content and a certain energy depending on the artists vision.

Technical music, is the explotation of the math of the system. It is using all of the available "time" to create harmonic transcendence through careful math manipulation. Any song that contains a multitude of different notes per measure can be considered technical. This music relies heavily on the use of music theory and general timing. Using a 4/4 pattern can become trivial in this style. Some bands have stepped past this mental boundary and have dabbled in other timings. Some of the more complex artists can actually complete poly rhythmic styles. Where they are maintaining two or more seperate timings within a single measure. Allowing for a more complex array of note orientation and completion.

Some interesting reading smile

i wish you picked a topic other than music because i'm tone deaf

srs

if it's an entire song i can hear it fine but it's impossible for me to isolate independent notes. pretty frustrating since i've always wanted to play an instrument but it's impossible for me to really get good at it. the best i can do is just read music and play accordingly (like a recorder) without really knowing what i'm playing.

you could always try out percussion, it doesn't require nearly the note coordination unless you decide to play in scales... in which case get ready to shell out over 20k for a tonal drumset lol

and ill be choosing more topics... if you have a suggestion, i am up for learning new stuff smile

I'd just like to oppose the whole pre 1980 thing. The late 60ies and early 70ies are the years wherein progressive and psychedelic rock music emerged and killed itself. In other words, there's a whole shit ton of music that requires "technic" as you specified pre 1980.
Other than that, it's all good.

there are some but the key point of the late 60's and early 70s was feeling the music. they were trying to create an atmosphere and an experience in the music. which is why i classify them more under the feeling and less under the technical aspects of it all
