This tool: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html will tell you the socket that your current motherboard uses. Your new mobo will have to have the same socket if you want to use your current processor. Also be sure to match up the kind of RAM it uses (DDR, DDR2, DDR3, SDRAM, etc). On the inside of your case, look at the power connections on the power supply. For the main connection going to the board, is it 20 or 24 pin? If you're hard drive or optical drives are IDE, does the new board have IDE ports? SATA ports? etc.

Regarding your question TS, the only I can suggest is the name of vendor for motherboard. The best is Intel, Asustek.
