| I also played before back in High School then stopped. Just got back a year ago under Innistrad Block currently playing at Standard Format but I also got a Commander deck, and Yes, it is now expensive to be a competitive player in Standard. Every time a deck will win a major tournament everyone will copy it so the demand of the cards will be doubled even tripled its price. I am now thinking to try Modern Format. Why? My friend tole me that the price of the cards doesn't move that much whenever a deck will win a tourney and the Meta can be read easily. |

The logic is understandable, MTG 10 years ago was an entirely different game. Goblin Bidding, UW Control, Burning Wake, Raffinity, etc.
There was usually a clearly dominant deck, and whomever was strongest at playing it properly (and of course had a bit of luck) would usually win the PTQs/GPs
Nowadays, there's a much broader field, and it means your deck choice is a much bigger factor, and you need to understand your local scene very well.
Essentially, it requires a lot more skill to win these days. Not necessarily intelligence, but it requires the ability to put 20+ hours a week into the game. |

| Yeah now and then.. haha been playing since '99 and I can tell you, that copying off tourney winners decks isn't going to get you anywhere, build a deck that can beat that deck with ease and GG at other types and then you're set |
