alright i've been had the desktop for about 3~4 years now

i kept it in good condition pretty much...i think

i've clean the dust from cpu fan and cooling fan but

starting from like maybe half a month now...i hear a noise, like an high pitch noise from back of desktop

it's either from power supply or internet cable

1. I took out the internet cable out but noise didn't stop
2. I took out the power supply cable and noise did stop
3. I plug them both back in and i hear the noise again

someone help me how to fix this

and oh i'm not a computer whiz so explain it simple please ^^

Ok, I can help you with this problem could be one of two things

-Check your hard drive take to a professional your hard drive might get ready to fry, but hardly possible

-You have something connected wrong to your power supply could be a number of things if you have a floppy disk check that first, be sure you hook up the partitions and slave, master right.

If any problem persists my solution is try un-plugging your cd-rom drive and see if the noise comes back, if it does you may have to replace your cd-rom drive.

i can offer 2 opinions.

1: you need to lube the PSU fan. the bearings are starting to wear. this can start with a whining noise and eventualy degrade into a full blown grinding noise.(least likely)

2: the transformer in your PSU is generating harmonic frequencies, this is common in older components and generaly indicates the part needing to be replaced as it is indicitave of immenent failure. it is generaly cheaper to replace the PSU than to replace just the transformer inside. (most likley)
