See, most MAC VS PC threads are not based on facts but more on hatred. Just alike this one, there's plenty of malware alvailabel for OS X out there, don't play it safe and you'll be sorry. Talking about software customization. In Windows, you have Admin or Limited accounts. That's it. Admins can do everything and Limited accounts can basically do nothing. If you have kids or people that don't know what they're doing, they can wreak havoc on your PC with an admin account, but if you make them a limited account they won't be able to install software, run certain programs, or really do anything useful.

In OS X, Standard accounts can install software, but only to their own User account. Standard accounts can't make system-wide changes, can't install software system-wide, and can't do any damage outside of their own user account. This way on the off chance they somehow find a way to make their user account unusable, you just have to delete it and recreate it and everything is back to normal. In Windows, anyone who isn't an experienced power user is a threat to the entire operating system.

Still, if you really want a customizable computer you probably should get Linux anyway. And since 2 operating systems back, mac runs on intel. While you are not legally allowed to install OS X on non-apple branded hardware, it doesn't mean you can't. Which gives you the same customization choises as PC. Aka, Hackintosh.

So "twice the price", Microsoft charges $160 for Windows 7 ultimate, $500 for Office Pro, and say a really cheap laptop, around $500. In conclusion, $1160. Where a macbook $1000 includes both iLife and iWork, which is equal to Office Pro. Please do correct pricing (I used pricerunner, but it only showed swedish results), but here you have a proper comparasion. Of course, on PC, Office pro is optional, on OS X, iLife and iWork isn't. Pirate Office Pro and Windows 7 or get a Hackintosh you'll still end up with the same price. It seems to me, when peoples comparing price, they don't know what they are comparing.

Personally I sometimes get the impression that Apple is hiding its powerful OS under a user-interface-for-kids facade, (like leaving out features that could be really useful, but maybe are too complicated to the normal user), but then I think of how I feel Microsoft does it: Information overload. Throw everything into the users face and brag with features, even if most of the windows (dead by natural selection?) users have no idea what the technical words and functions are. Where I can only speak for myself, whenever I want to change a specific aspect of the Windows OS I always find myself spending hours clicking through an endless amount of confusing submenues to find what I want.

Also I found particulary interesting in this metaphor, I quote "with nothing to protect you from falling". Try just once connect your computer to the internet without "protection", i.e. firewalls, antivirus, etc.

Trying to keep an open mind.

My suggestion is to just mow more lawns and pickup some extra customers for your paper route and buy both.

Im pretty sure the most powerful (apple branded) mac atm, i7, 32 GB memory, 2 TB hdd and whatever monitor you chose to plug in. I might be wrong though Im not very uppdated. (By the way 600 gigabit is roughly 75 gigabyte lol (Byte=B, Bit=b). It doesn't matter really there's way way better PC's out there anyway. By the way Battlefield 2142 was released in october 06, in other words a long time ago. So to speak, i7 was released in september 09.

Since I've had close to non personal experience with Linux, don't take my words too serious, what I heard is they only work nice assuming you got enough programming skills to make it compatibel. Such skills most peoples lack.

Alas, at macrumors.com I've seen it talking about both Sony, Dell and various of other companies wanting to sell computers with OS X, when Apple themselves didn't want these companies to. Which is in my opinion fucking stupid.

Talking about small stuff. iPods were nice. iPhone were nice. iPod touch was questionable. But two of the worst tech failures in the history of time belongs to Apple, iPad and Single-touch mouse lol. (And Apple Pippin, and "Apple Macintosh Portable", but that was like in the 80s)

Ironic isn't it...

Microsoft:
Founded Albuquerque, New Mexico, April 4, 1975

Apple Inc:
Founded Cupertino, California, April 1, 1976

While you are right Apple made computers before Microsoft, but Microsoft did develop software before Apple.

However, they had a name out, peoples knew what Microsoft was. And in this case it's closely related, yes it matter. Im pretty sure Microsoft still doesn't make most of their hardware, except for, keyboards, webcams, headsets, xbox and, hrm, zune. Im not entierly sure if Apples "computers" were by definition computers anyway, more like typewriters at most lol.
