I lose soul points

Every time I move from screen to screen and I don't even attack anything I lose soul points, sometimes like 10-20 soul points when I am dead.

Why is this ?

Yeah I'm not sure why it happens, I'll have full soul points, immediately go to the "Take the Tunnel" screen, and be down over half of them immediately with only one screen change. Then sometimes when I restore my soul I'll lose like 30 after changing screens.
